Not All Hybrid Battery Warranties Are Unlimited
"3-year warranty" and "lifetime warranty" can hide mileage caps, parts-only terms, and claim fees. Here's how to read the fine print, and where we stand on each point.
The fine print to check before you buy
- Annual mileage caps. Some national providers void or prorate the warranty if you drive more than a set amount, in some cases 20,000 miles a year. If you drive for Uber, Lyft, or deliveries, that cap can swallow the warranty in months. Our plans have no mileage limit of any kind.
- Parts-only claims. Read whether the warranty covers just the replacement part, leaving you to pay labor, travel, or shipping every time you make a claim. Our warranty service covers the work, not just the hardware, per the plan terms.
- Deposits and fees to file a claim. We've seen travel deposits and shipping deposits required up front before a warranty visit. We charge a service fee only if the problem turns out not to be the battery we installed.
- Usage clauses. Some warranties require the car to be driven on a schedule or void coverage over paperwork. Our terms are on one page, in plain language.
- Who actually shows up. A warranty is only as good as the crew honoring it. We're not a call center dispatching contractors — three shops, our own technicians, since 2011.
